My name is Mykola, and I am the owner of Dumenko Studio. 

My journey into woodworking and building things with my own hands began more than 30 years ago when I started to tinker with basic tools on my grandmother’s farm in Ukraine.

Back then, there were no power tools and no big box stores. I was lucky if I found an old hammer, rusty metal pliers, and a semi-dull hand saw in my grandma’s barn. I would scavenge the barn looking for wood and old nails that I would pull out and then flatten with the hammer in order to reuse them in whatever projects I was working on. Even today, some of my best childhood memories are from the summers I spent on that farm constantly building something out of nothing. 

Many, many years later and numerous career paths in finance at one of Canada’s biggest financial institutions, and management consulting at one of the world’s top business consulting firms, I opened Dumenko Studio in order to pursue my lifelong passion of building beautiful and functional items that people can enjoy in their daily lives. 

One of my missions with Dumenko Studio is to promote local craftsmanship and Made in Canada small-scale manufacturing. All our products are hand-made in Calgary with high-quality materials and attention to detail.
